Spring is (finally) in the air… It’s warm in the mornings and after work which means… it’s bicycle riding season! Time pull out your bike, adjust your seat, and fill up your tires. The Cooperage Project is proud to present a DIY bicycle workshop, “Ride your Bike” on Monday, May 5th from 6:30 to 8:30pm at The Cooperage, 1030 Main Street in Honesdale, PA. Whether you’re an expert or a beginning, this workshop is for you. “Ride your bike” will be taught by Mike Johnson and Jeff McLaine, both long-time bicycling enthusiasts and employees at Sawmill Cycles, located at 833 Main Street in Honesdale. Johnson is an avid road biker. It’s almost certain that you have seen him riding around the area. McLaine is a mountain biker with extensive experience repairing and wrenching on bikes. Together they will teach you what you need to know to get both yourself and your bike ready to ride this spring.

Frogs & Bogs: PARS Workshop After winter's snow has melted and spring's rain has fallen, vernal (seasonal) pools are the perfect place to find amphibians and reptiles. Using nets and containers, we'll catch, photo document and release species, egg masses and whatever else we find! Join us for this citizen science effort, as we contribute to the Pennsylvania Amphibian and Reptile Survey (PARS). We'll begin with a presentation from the PARS statewide coordinator, Marlin Corn. He will introduce us to PAMRS and provide us with tips for finding and identifying Pennsylvania's amphibians and reptiles. Following a lunch break at the lodge overlooking Lake Lacawac, we'll break into groups ad explore the Sanctuary's land. Participants may survey for as long as they are interested, till the end of the program. Our field finding will be reported on the PARS' website. This exploration is best suited for ages 8 and up, teens and adults. Bring your own lunch and consider the benefits of using reusable containers. This is a FREE workshop. Lacawac Sanctuary is a hot spot for a diverse population of bird species. Join Northeast Pennsylvania's Audubon Society naturalists on a walk to identify the birds we see and hear. Field marks, songs, behaviors and flight patterns are all characteristics that can lead to a proper identification. The expert birders from the NEPA Audubon Society and other naturalist professionals will help us identify species to record on eBirds, a citizen science site used by researchers tracking bird populations and migrations. We will make the short walk from the Coulter Visitor's Center and new Environmental Laboratory, funded by a National Science Foundation award, to unveil the Arthur Watres Trail. Following the dedication join naturalist, Jenna Wayne Mauder, for an interpretative hike down to the new Ledges Trail overlooking the geological beauties at Wallenpaupack. Wear sturdy footwear and dress for the weather. The hike is FREE and no registration is required.

Free Book Swap In its fourth year, this America Recycles Day event has reused about 15,000 books! Local organizations and libraries, schools and families have benefited from this event. This small idea has also made a global imprint with donations to Better World Books, an organization that supports literacy efforts world wide. Bring your beloved and dusty to the Wayne Conservation District on Park Street in Honesdale to drop and swap for "new" books. There are no limits to how many you bring or take and you don't have to bring a book to take books. Left-over books are distributed to the Wayne County Christmas Bureau, Wayne County Prison and Better World Books. Severely tattered books are recycled at the Wayne County Recycling Center. Wayne County Historical Society Annual Open House. Bring your holiday spirit and your gift list to start your holiday season off right. The Wayne County Historical Society will offer FREE main museum admission for the day. Come over and enjoy the exhibits, browse our gift shop and get that holiday shopping started. During the hours of 4:00pm- 7:00pm there will be light refreshments and musical entertainment for your enjoyment.

Get in the holiday spirit in Historic Downtown Honesdale. Honesdale for the Holidays is a wonderful winter event held every year in the Historic Downtown Honesdale. There will be craft vendors, trolley rides, delicious local food, and our local shops will help you with all of your gift giving needs.

Join us for an overview of the volunteer program followed by visits to actual monitoring sites. New volunteers will meet at the Upper Delaware Visitor Center (176 Scenic Drive, Lackawaxen) at 9am. Then, new and existing volunteers will gather next door at the Inn at Lackawaxen at from 10am-12pm. From 12pm-1pm, attendees will visit the eagle viewing areas. Volunteers cover morning or afternoon shifts.
