Using the plants, leaves, and ferns from around Lake Wallenpaupack to inspire you, we’ll create wonderful watercolor paintings together. Making art has never been this much fun! Join Dave Hamill, Wallenpaupack Area High School art teacher, for this colorful program. Watercolors usually wash out but bring a smock or play clothes, just in case. Join us for one or all of these programs geared toward budding junior naturalists. Designed especially for children ages 5 – 10 (also welcoming budding naturalists of all ages), these hands-on activities will spark creativity and appreciation for the natural environment around us.

Bring your binoculars or borrow ours to look at the colorful birds in our backyard. Blue, red, yellow, orange and brown! We will look at Pocono birds and listen to their sweet songs on a short trek with Jackie Speicher, biology professor at Northampton Community College. Then we’ll enjoy a live falconry demonstration. Falconry is an ancient art of training birds of prey. Local falconer, Pete Porter, will show us a live raptor and talk about how they hunt for food.

Lake Wallenpaupack Dam and Power Plant Tours as part of Wally Lake Fest Not everyone has had a chance to walk across the Wallenpaupack Dam and a trip to the power plant is a rare treat, too. During this free tour, you will learn about the history surrounding the construction of PPL’s renewable energy plant and discover how electricity is created with the power of water.Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission will be on site to answer questions about the boating and fishing on the lake. They’ll also provide fly rod casting demonstrations.
